How to Clean a Diamond Ring at Home with Dish Soap

My engagement ring has a beautiful diamond, but after wearing it for so many years, along side my wedding ring, it had become dirty. Which is why I was looking for the best way to clean a diamond ring at home.

Today, in this post I will show you how to safely and easily clean your diamond ring at home using just dish soap. This method will have your ring sparkling in no time, and it’s so simple that anyone can do it!

 What you will need:

items you need to clean a diamond ring
  • Warm water
  • Mild dish soap, something without harsh chemicals like bleach or acetone
  • A soft-bristled toothbrush, a baby toothbrush works great!
  • A lint-free microfiber cloth or a soft cotton towel
  • A small bowl or cup for soaking
  • And, with a diamond ring, of course you want to be careful, so grab a small sieve or fine mesh strainer, just in case the ring slips while rinsing.

First, we’re going to prepare our soapy solution

add dish soap and water

Fill a small bowl or cup with warm water—make sure it’s not boiling hot, just comfortably warm.

stir to make a soapy jewelry cleaning solution

Then, add a few drops of mild dish soap and gently stir to create a nice, soapy mixture.

soak the diamond ring in the cleaning solution

Now, place your diamond ring into the soapy water and let it soak for about 20 to 30 minutes. This will help loosen any dirt, grime, and oils that have collected on the diamond and its setting.

scrub the diamond ring gently with a brush

After soaking, it’s time to gently scrub the ring. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, carefully brush the diamond and setting, paying special attention to the back of the diamond and around the prongs where dirt tends to build up. Don’t forget to clean underneath the stone as well! If your ring has intricate details, the soft brush will help you get into all those tiny areas.

wash the diamond ring with water

Once you’ve scrubbed the ring, rinse it thoroughly with lukewarm water to wash away the soap and any loosened dirt. Be sure to plug the drain or use a sieve to catch the ring in case it slips!

Finally, pat the ring dry using a microfiber or lint-free cloth. This will prevent scratching the diamond or metal. Try to avoid using paper towels, as they can leave fibers behind or even cause tiny scratches on the surface.

And that’s it! With just a few simple steps and some dish soap, your diamond ring is clean, shiny, and looking as good as new!

I think this is the best way to clean your diamond ring safely at home – do you have any other ideas? Leave a comment and let me know if this helped you.
